During an interview on the far-left talk show The View, Washington Episcopal Bishop Mariann Budde attempted to justify her political sermon by claiming it was “a truth” that needed to be said.
The Gateway Pundit previously reported that President Trump attended the Washington National Cathedral for what was supposed to be a unifying interfaith ceremony, a tradition that dates back to 1933.
However, Budde, who has a long history of leftist activism, turned the sacred event into a platform to push radical talking points and misrepresent Trump’s policies.
Budde brazenly implied that President Trump was heartless toward the LGBTQ community and illegal immigrants, delivering a sermon laced with divisive rhetoric.
“Let me make one final plea, Mr. President,” Budde began. “As you told the nation yesterday, you have felt the providential hand of a loving God.”
“In the name of a loving God, to have mercy on the people in our country who are scared now, she stated. “There are gay, lesbian, and transgender children in Democratic, Republican, and Independent families, some who fear for their lives.”
“And the people who pick our crops and clean our office buildings…They may not be citizens or have the proper documentation,” she added.
“The vast majority of immigrants are not criminals. They pay taxes and are good neighbors…May I ask you to have mercy Mr. President on those in our communities whose children fear that their parents will be taken away,” she concluded.
President Trump took to social media to respond to the so-called bishop’s disgraceful remarks.
In a blistering rebuke, Trump wrote:
The so-called Bishop who spoke at the National Prayer Service on Tuesday morning was a Radical Left hard line Trump hater. She brought her church into the World of politics in a very ungracious way.
She was nasty in tone, and not compelling or smart.
She failed to mention the large number of illegal migrants that came into our Country and killed people.
Many were deposited from jails and mental institutions. It is a giant crime wave that is taking place in the USA.
Apart from her inappropriate statements, the service was a very boring and uninspiring one. She is not very good at her job! She and her church owe the public an apology!
Archbishop Vigano also blasted Budde in a statement on X.
““Bishopess” Budde is not the only one preaching welcome and compassion for migrants (illegal immigrants and criminals who violate the Nation’s borders, spreading violence and chaos) and for “gay, lesbian and trans children” (corrupted by perverted and pedophile adults to be their docile prey): together with “Mrs.” Budde – and not too far away in terms of theological positions – there are the exponents of the Bergoglian church who infest and occupy the Catholic Church,” said Vigano.
Budde appeared on ABC’s “The View,” where she defended her sermon as a necessary truth.
During an interview on the far-left talk show “The View,” Budde defended her sermon, claiming it emphasized “respecting the honor and dignity of every human being, basic honesty and humility.”
She added, “What I said and I mean, how could it not be politicized? We’re in a hyper-political climate. One of the things I caution about is the culture of contempt in which we live that immediately rushes to the worst possible interpretations of what people are saying and to put them in categories such as the ones you just described. That’s part of the air we breathe now. I was trying to speak a truth that I felt needed to be said, but to do it as respectful and kind a way as I could. Also to bring other voices into the conversation, which voices that had not been heard in the public space for some time.”
