Illinois Republican Party Chairwoman Kathy Salvi has called for a criminal investigation into Democrat Governor J.B. Pritzker, accusing him of incitement following his recent remarks at a Democrat gathering in New Hampshire.
Gov. Pritzker’s unhinged remarks, which were captured on video and widely shared on social media, included a call for “mass protests,” “mobilization,” “disruption,” and denying Republicans “a moment of peace” under the Trump administration.
“It’s time to fight everywhere and all at once,” he said to loud applause from the audience.
“Never before in my life have I called for mass protests, for mobilization, for disruption. But I am now.”
“These Republicans cannot know a moment of peace.”
”They need to know understand that we will fight their cruelty with every microphone and megaphone that we have.”
”We must castigate them at the soap box, then punish them at the ballot box.”

Chairwoman Salvi interpreted these comments as dangerously inflammatory, especially in the current volatile political climate, during the interview with The Center Square on Monday.
Salvi: Unbelievable. Here, when world leaders are meeting to attend the funeral of Pope Francis and calling for world peace, we have our own governor calling for no peace for Republicans. And I think if you put this in the context of the two assassination attempts this past year against President Trump, if I were in charge and I had a say, it would be my opinion that there should be an open investigation for criminal incitement by this governor because words matter.

To be in a group of lively Democrats — remember, the losing party — President Trump was elected in November as a mandate, and the people of this country want his solutions, his common-sense solutions, to be placed into law. In that audience, he did nothing with those words but incite the crowd, and I can only hope and pray that no violence or harm comes to any person on account of those irresponsible and incendiary remarks.
Well, he didn’t say anything about peaceful protest last night. Again, words matter, and he can’t walk back the words that he used last night.

Governor Pritzker has defended his speech, asserting that his call to action was metaphorical, aimed at energizing Democratic voters to stand up against Republican policies.
“The peace that I’m talking about is making sure that they know at all times that the American public opposes the policies of congressional Republicans and the White House,” Pritzker said.
